Campus Ministry, rooted in our Catholic identity, is a welcoming place for students of all faith traditions to explore, enrich, and engage their spiritual life. We serve the entire community as a center for spiritual enrichment and personal development. All faith backgrounds are encouraged to share in advancing a vibrant faith community while empowering servant leaders. The Campus Ministry staff is available to plan and conduct liturgical services, provide pastoral care, assist with sacramental preparations, and to meet other religious and spiritual needs. We offer a variety of programs and opportunities — from retreats to social justice — for you to discover what you believe and find where you belong.
We are proud to help our Sacred Heart Community fully live out the Gospel by our lives. We are committed to cultivating active participation in the Sacramental Life of the Catholic Church, encouraging Christian maturity and a personal relationship with Christ, and promoting apostolic service. We strive to live out the Gospel message, “What you did for the least of my people, you did for Me.” (Matt 25:40) Here at the Heart, we want to cultivate not only a heart for Christ and His Church, also a heart for Service. Service allows us to put our faith into Action. We want our students to learn that when we serve others, we don’t expect to receive anything back (Luke 6).
We cultivate this by practicing the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy.
Retreats are an important part of our faith development and walk with Christ. Retreats are offered for all four years. They are opportunities to get away from the “ordinary” periods of our life and spend some “extraordinary” time growing in our relationship with God. We are reminded in Scripture that Christ himself secluded himself in prayer and meditation in the desert for 40 days, and even spent time “away” in prayer while preaching with his disciples.
Each class retreat is a time away from the ordinary, whether still on campus yet away from the daily academic requirements, or off campus in a more intent examination. We encourage all students to use the retreat process to grow in their relationship with God.
Campus Ministry Leaders at Sacred Heart answer Jesus' call to discipleship in their own lives and being the joy of discipleship to others. They take on the responsibility of not only assisting with the work of the Campus Ministry Office, but of acting as examples of the Christian life to students, teachers, and staff at the heart. Therefore, they must aspire to meet high academic and ethical standards in their personal lives.
Students should be prepared to assist with all school Mass setup and clean-up, Penance services, class retreats, outreach, and other activities of Campus Ministry.
Annually, Campus Ministry awards one student from each grade the St. Francis of Assisi Service Award. This award is given to the student in each grade that models the virtues of St. Francis of Assisi by demonstrating an ongoing commitment to service and performing Works of Mercy that far exceed the minimum requirements of the Works of Mercy Service Program.
